The course Bachelor of Arts in Music is a general course, i.e. as a student at the Lucerne School of Music you will receive a comprehensive, high-quality instrumental or vocal artistic education which is thorough enough to provide the basis for the following specialization in the Master’s course. This Bachelor’s course is built up progressively, clearly structured and leaves room for individual choices by the student in planning. After attaining the Bachelor’s degree, you have completed this basic course and can decide on one of the Master’s degree courses leading to a recognized professional qualification.
The course Bachelor of Arts in Music is a general course, i.e. as a student at the Lucerne School of Music you will receive a comprehensive, high-quality instrumental or vocal artistic education which is thorough enough to provide the basis for the following specialization in the Master’s course. This Bachelor’s course is built up progressively, clearly structured and leaves room for individual choices by the student in planning. After attaining the Bachelor’s degree, you have completed this basic course and can decide on one of the Master’s degree courses leading to a recognized professional qualification.
The course Bachelor of Arts in Music comprises five separate modular segments. Each modular segment consists of a certain number of modules (a module can be one or more courses). Each modular segment accounts for a certain number of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) points.
Modular Segment A: Core faculty Instrumental/Vocal (110 ECTS)
Classical or Jazz Profile
This comprises all the modules directly concerned with an instrument or the voice.

Modular segment B: General studies (40 ECTS)
This area contains compulsory and optional courses in music theory, history of music, physical training and various theoretical auxiliary subjects.
Music and the Body
Overview lectures, seminars on topics such as “Rhythmic training, the body, percussion”.
Music and History
Lectures on music history, proceeding chronologically, phenomenology of music history (the history of music is described in terms of musical and cultural phenomena); seminars on musical and music-historical topics.
Music and Theory
Seminar on basic concepts / basic techniques, follow-on seminars.
The contents of the seminars on music theory are set in relation to one another and focussed on practical use in musical activities.

Modular segment C: Deepening knowledge (15 ECTS)
The tuition offered in this area is intended to enable students to prepare themselves for the specific Master’s courses of their choice, to orientate themselves and to examine their inclinations and skills.
