Not only will graduates find exciting challenges in private companies, they will also be qualified to work in the public sector in tourism regions or join affiliated organisations.
The Master in Business Administration with a Major in Tourism offers the following advantages:
- Strong industry orientation: The curriculum of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is closely tailored to the needs of industry – as illustrated by its emphasis on forming new partnerships in industry, encouraging work-study programmes, and engaging lecturers with a strong industry background, for example.
- Strong international focus: The programme’s content is primarily geared to the needs of organisations with a strong international orientation, and some of its lecturers come from foreign partner universities (e.g. University of Brighton). All modules are taught in English.
- Work-study programme: Those enrolled in the Master’s programme will have the opportunity to work up to 30% of normal working hours in an organisation directly or indirectly related to tourism. Completing the programme thus significantly enhances graduates’ prospects in the job market. Even though Switzerland is not part of the EU, students from the EU have the same status in the job market as Swiss students and can expect to earn a gross salary of CHF 1,000 to CHF 1,500 while working 50% of regular working hours (a non-binding quote based similar arrangements).
- Unique combination of service management and tourism: In the first two semesters of the Master’s programme students will focus primarily on the field of service management.
An understanding of service management can prove valuable in related fields outside of the tourism industry as well. These may include:
- General service providers (leisure and sports organisations, planning and consulting firms, real estate companies, etc.)
- Public and private transport companies, convention centres, event agencies, events departments in a wide range of organisations.
